Hello! My name is Kirstie, and I am the artist behind Echo Foxx. The inspiration for Echo Foxx Design came to me while I was backpacking through Southeast Asia and working as a freelance graphic designer. When I began creating watercolor and acrylic prints, the name naturally became part of my artistic identity. The outdoors is where I find most of my inspiration—pine trees, wildflowers, and starry night skies always make me want to rush back to my studio and create. I currently live in Traverse City, Michigan.
When Laughing Fish Gallery was open, people would often asked me, “What’s your favorite thing to make?” Honestly—it's all my favorite. I love exploring different mediums, and each one brings out a new spark of creativity. I spend most of my time with watercolor and acrylic paints. Watercolors are perfect for painting on the go, and many of my prints and cards are created from those pieces. You’ve probably noticed I have a thing for wood slices too—I just can’t resist them! Acrylics make it possible to paint on wood, which adds such a unique texture and charm to each piece. I also love weaving tapestries inspired by Lake Michigan sunsets, sculpting my little “Clay Bears,” and making sparkly mobiles and sun catchers that play with the light. Check out my Portfolio page to view more of my creations.
My mom and I opened Laughing Fish Gallery back in 2019, and it was such a fun and meaningful experience full of creativity, community, and many learning curves. After nearly six awesome years, we decided to close our Suttons Bay shop so we could spend more time focusing on making art. My son was born in the fall of 2023 and it became too difficult to balance the store, finding time for art and raising my son. It was a tough decision, but its been so good for us creatively. My mom, Shelly, has a gallery in Ludington, Michigan ( Pier Joy ) with her sister Annette, and you can find my work there too, or online anytime! Our original gallery was right in downtown Suttons Bay, so a lot of my art is inspired by the beautiful Leelanau County scenery we were surrounded by every day.
The name Echo Foxx came to me during a trip through Nepal in 2016. I was sitting in a little Turkish café, sketching and creating hand-drawn logos for Fiverr. I needed a name for my business and somewhere between the strong coffee and copious amounts of naan, the name just popped into my head—Echo Foxx. It started as Echo Foxx Design, overtime I started using it everywhere and eventually dropped the “Design.” When my mom and I opened Laughing Fish Gallery together in 2019, the name stuck. Honestly, it’s a lot easier for people to remember and spell than my real name, Kirstie, so I just started signing all my work with it!
